Frequently Asked Questions

Input Monitoring is how macOS lets an app know that a key was pressed. Keyclicker uses it for exactly one thing: playing the sound you chose when you press a key. The app only reads the hardware key code (an integer identifying the key), plays the sound, and immediately discards it. No characters, words, or input content are ever read, logged, stored, or transmitted - keystroke detection is fully offline, and the app contains no analytics or trackers.

On first launch the app shows a step-by-step guide. In short: open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring, find Keyclicker in the list and toggle it on, then restart the app. The app detects the status automatically and re-checks each time it becomes active.

Since v1.0.2 the download is Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple — just double-click the DMG, drag Keyclicker into Applications, and launch it normally. If you are on a very old version downloaded earlier, please re-download from the site to get the notarized build.

No account, no sign-in - keystrokes never leave your Mac. The only network requests the app makes go to Dodo Payments (our payment provider) to activate or re-validate a Pro license, and they carry your license key only. See the privacy section on the home page for details.

Turn on Quiet Hours in the app (default 22:00-08:00) and keystrokes stay silent during that window. You can also mute instantly from the menu-bar panel.

macOS 26.2 or later, on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Subscription & License

In the app, click the tier badge (or any locked sound) to open the Pro panel, then choose Monthly ($0.99/mo) or Lifetime ($9.99). Checkout, invoicing and taxes are handled by Dodo Payments, our Merchant of Record. After paying you receive a license key by email - paste it into the app to activate Pro.

Email us from the address you used to pay and we'll cancel it for you. Cancellation stops future charges; Pro stays active until the end of the current billing period, after which the app automatically returns to the free tier. Lifetime purchases don't renew, so there is nothing to cancel.

The key is in your purchase confirmation email. If you can't find it, email us from the address you paid with and we'll resend it.

A license key is active on 1 Mac at a time. Moving to a new Mac? Use "Deactivate on this Mac" in the app's Pro panel first, then activate on the new machine.

Granting Input Monitoring - Step by Step

If keystrokes don't play any sound, the permission isn't enabled yet. Follow these steps:

  1. Open System Settings (Apple menu → System Settings…).
  2. Go to Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring.
  3. Find Keyclicker in the list and switch it on. You may need to unlock with your password or Touch ID.
  4. Quit Keyclicker completely (menu-bar icon → Quit) and open it again.
  5. Type anywhere - every keystroke now plays your selected sound.
